Habitats : Woodland and open habitats, gardens

Flight Period : Single-brooded; late September to February, mostly recorded in October and November

Larval foodplants : Blackthorn, Hawthorn, sallows, oaks, docks and dandelion

Comments : Not as frequently recorded as Chestnut

Morley's Final Catalogue : Both (referring also Chestnut) abundant throughout the County, the former rather the more prevalent.

Wingspan details : Forewing 13-15mm, Wingspan 30-38mm
