Distribution and abundance : Widespread and common

Habitats : Woodland, heathland, scrub and gardens

Flight Period : Single-brooded; late January to early May

Larval foodplants : Various broad-leaved trees and shrubs - found locally on hawthorn, field maple, birch, elm, Hazel, oak

Morley's Final Catalogue : Abundant everywhere from Bentley Woods in 1935 to Gorleston. At Monks Soham so early as 16 February.in 1933.

Wingspan details : Forewing 16-20mm, Wingspan male 36-42mm, female 10-14mm
